Casa Patrick è una struttura che ospita oltre 100 bambini e ragazzi orfani o abbandonati all'interno della Fondazione Pediatrica di Kimbondo.

In particolare, questi bambini e ragazzi sono tutti portatori di una qualche forma di disabilità e oltre il 20% è affetto da epilessia.

Una così altra percentuale è dovuta al fatto che i bambini affetti da questa patologia sono più facilmente soggetti all'abbandono da parte delle famiglie, la cultura locale tende ad attribuire a questa patologia valori negativi frutto di convinzioni non ancora completamente superate.

Per dare risposta a questa situazione, alla all'interno della pediatria abbiamo realizzato il primo centro di tutta l'area di Kinshasa per la diagnosi e la cura dell'epilessia, rivolto anche a tutta la popolazione locale, così da ridurre gli abbandoni e far capire ai genitori che si tratta di una patologia curabile.

L'attuale situazione di emergenza legata al COVID-19, ha comportato soprattutto in Africa una situazione di vera e propria speculazione, facendo lievitare i costi dei beni di prima necessità e dei farmaci.

Ora stiamo inziando a riprendere i progetti sospesi e a breve i volontari inziaranno a tornare alla Perdiatria e potremo inviare tramite loro i farmaci necessari!

Il diritto alla cura è uno dei diritti fondamentali dell’uomo e questi bambini, questi ragazzi, che combattono con gli artigli per poter guarire, ne hanno pieno diritto.

The current emergency linked to COVID-19 has led, especially in Africa, to a situation of real speculation, causing the costs of basic necessities and medicines to rise.

Now we are starting to resume the suspended projects and soon the volunteers will start returning to the Paediatric and we will be able to send the necessary drugs through them!
